Re: Cuts. The city is bowing to the political winds that currently blow. That is all. If there is blowback, the same people who voted this cut will reverse their position. The people of Minneapolis are getting the government they elected which is the government they deserve.

Maybe criminals will leave cities that haven't defunded their police and gravitate to Minneapolis and similar cities.

Well then you know how it goes....city budgets are under a lot of stress because of the pandemic.

Social workers do come cheaper than cops. If they want to try a "combined arms" approach to certain urban situations (social workers as light infantry supported by police as heavy weapons platoon) who is to say they are wrong to experiment.

My guess is they'll figure it out over time.

but you know, since it was posted here in several if not a dozen threads, that the defund the police was about defunding the police and using other kindler gentler means to stop crime,


and prosecute cops vs retrain or redirect,

so cops are quitting,
crime is on the rise,
the softer/kindler/gentler stuff has not been worked out,


is there a plan to transition to the 'feelings' policing?
