Spot-on Vern, I knew a man, a good, solid man, who was elected to a lower level position in another state. After his re-election, quite a few folks were trying to get him to consider running for Congress, senator actually. After visiting some folks in his state's capitol and in DC also, he bowed out. After his third term he left politics completely. He said he would have to make too many un-clean compromises to be a so-called success. That is how it is, and I respect the guy.
At the upper levels particularly, there are no clean hands.

There should be a limit on how much a politician's personal wealth can increase while in office -- any gains in excess of that should go to the Treasury.
